Detailed Calls

With NexGen, users receive different calls for different weather events. Our phone calls not only tell you there is a warning for your location, but you are also receiving information about what type of weather threat you can expect with that warning.

Detailed Calls

Whether you are on vacation for the weekend, at a sports tournament, or visiting family, by using the "Find Me" feature, you will continue to receive the NexGen alerts you have become accustomed to, just for your temporary location.

Lightning Alerts

For those with the $15/year service, you are also receiving lightning alerts along with all clear notifications. Receiving those alerts could give you more time to get to shelter than if you did not have lightning alerts. This gives you another layer of protection.

Detailed Phone Call Alerts

2 Types of Tornado Warning Calls

Did you know the National Weather Service includes specific wording in tornado warnings to inform meteorologists whether the warning was issued due to a likely tornado or if a tornado has been confirmed on the ground?

Using that wording, WeatherCall can deliver two different types of Tornado Warning phone calls.

  1. Tornado Warning phone call for what is likely a tornado happening, but not confirmed by someone in the field or by radar
  2. An "Extreme" Tornado Warning phone call for what has been confirmed by either radar or by reports from someone in the field

2 Types of Severe Thunderstorm Warning Calls

Just like with the tornado warnings above, the National Weather Service uses specific measurements of wind speed and/or hail to categorize different thunderstorms.

With WeatherCall NexGen, you'll know if a Severe Thunderstorm warning is for:

  1. A storm with quarter-sized hail (1" in diameter) or larger AND/OR 58+ mph winds
  2. An "extreme" storm with golf ball-sized hail or larger (1.75" in diameter) AND/OR 68+ mph winds.

Only for Extreme Severe Thunderstorm Warnings (winds 68+ mph, golf ball-sized hail or larger)

  • All Severe Thunderstorm Warnings
  • All Tornado Warnings
    • Added phone call and new wording if a tornado is confirmed by spotters or radar

Flash Flood Emergency Calls

Flooding can be extremely dangerous, especially Flash Flooding.

Thanks to the National Weather Service, there is now a Flash Flood Emergency. These are issued with flooding becomes life-threatening.

Extreme Wind Warning Calls

While these warnings are rare, and mostly seen during tropical events, should one be issued, you would receive a phone call stating winds of at least 115 mph (not associated with a tornado) are expected to occur.

Find Me Feature

Great for Travel, Short Trips

The "Find Me” feature gives you true on-the-go protection—no more stale alerts tied only to your home address. Whether you’re traveling for work, at a tournament, or on vacation, NexGen follows you for up to five days before gently returning you to your primary location.

  • Seamless auto-tracking
Once enabled, “Find Me” updates your alert area for your new location, without having to enter a specific address.
  • Extended coverage window
Alerts stay anchored to your current location for up to 5 days, then revert back, so you’re never left unprotected.
  • Precision geo-fencing
Unlike generic “location services,” we use pinpoint geofences around your exact GPS coordinates for hyper-local warnings.

NexGen Lightning Alerts

Stay Safe with Lightning & All-Clear Alerts

Lightning is one of the most unpredictable and dangerous weather threats. With WeatherCall NexGen’s lightning alerts (included in the $15/year plan), you’ll receive an instant notification the moment lightning is detected within 10 miles of your location, giving you time to find shelter. And with our All-Clear Alerts, you’ll know exactly when the danger has passed, so you can confidently resume outdoor activities.

Quick Lightning Safety Tips

  • Seek Safe Shelter
At the first clap of thunder, head indoors or into a hard-topped vehicle—structures with plumbing and wiring provide the best protection.
  • Avoid High Ground & Isolated Objects
Stay away from hilltops, open fields, tall trees, flagpoles, or metal fences, which can attract strikes.
  • Steer Clear of Water
Exit pools, boats, and wet areas immediately—water conducts electricity and increases your risk.
  • Wait for the All-Clear
Don’t venture back outside until at least 30 minutes after the last rumble of thunder—or rely on your NexGen All-Clear Alert to tell you it’s safe.

Types of Watches You May Receive

Standard Watch (Thunderstorm/Tornado)

Standard Watch (Thunderstorm/Tornado)

Standard Watch (Thunderstorm/Tornado)

A "WATCH" is issued when conditions are ripe for severe weather—tornadoes, damaging winds, or large hail. Think of it as an early heads-up.

When a "WATCH" is issued, that is the time to review your safety plan and keep an eye on the sky and your devices for updates.

PDS Watch (Thunderstorm/Tornado)

Standard Watch (Thunderstorm/Tornado)

Standard Watch (Thunderstorm/Tornado)

A "PDS" (Particularly Dangerous Situation) is an enhanced watch reserved for the more extreme scenarios. When you see a PDS Watch, meteorologists have high confidence that exceptionally violent tornadoes or widespread destructive winds are possible, so it’s time to move from “be ready” to “take action” and secure your safest shelter immediately.
